Is it true that Caution Girl's alter-ego, magdalen, has a weblog nowadays? Why yes, it's true. Read it at www.magdalen.com.

if you’re here, you’ve undoubtedly got that oh-so-rare lil’ gem called “The Adventures of Caution Girl -- Black Rock City, 2001.” and if you liked it, you should sign up to receive an announcement when Caution Girl and her cohorts put out actual releases.

so here are some things about the songs:

1. Last Xmas

When they were both dwelt in the wilds of New York City one lonely winter, Miss Tiffany Lee Brown joined Sir Jamie of Burl for a heartfelt rendition of the holiday classic “Blue Christmas.” By whoever wrote that, with lyrics by Jamie & Tif.

2. Utopia 14

Tif improvising recently with the fabulous Portland group KOSM, a.k.a. Kings On Straw Mats. These are raw, unmixed, uneffected, unadulterated tracks from sessions at Mike Lastra Studios.

3. Alexandria

Austin-based DJ Drop Cycle and tif collaborated on this dreamy number, which is (c) (p) Brown, McCarter, and the big scary people at Famous Publishing who will cut off our pinkies if you reproduce and sell this in an unauthorized fashion, or something like that.

4. Bee Side

A shpooky tune from Larold Will, Tif, and their Portland band Brainwarmer. Also available on MP3 right here at Corporate Collapse.

6. Submerge

Live improvisation, complete with bar noises, from KOSM this spring.

7. No Journey Only

More improv spring bar KOSM live.

8. Elliott Smith’s Guitar

The song that made Brainwarmer famous. Oh, wait, that’s right: we’re not famous. Anyway, it’s available on MP3 and it’s the song that made us start the band. I’ve been asked a lot what the song is about. Well, we walked into Jackpot Studios, and Elliott Smith’s old guitar was sitting there, so I picked it up and wrote the song and we recorded it on the spot. So the song is actually about making the song. How … meta!

10. Bee Side (Crack-2 Mix)

Does the term backmasking mean anything to you?

11. Sunny Afternoon

With the then-New York, now-San Francisco-based Lakeside Rebar. They usually do more countrified stuff, so don’t y’all go blaming them for miss tif’s dirgy ol’ songs.

12. Waltz of Innocents

Improvisation with tif’s former Portland band, Black Orchid. Can you tell this and track 15 are recorded from ancient, played-too-many-times cassette tapes? It adds to their charm. Tell yourself: “Weird lush improv done in the lo-fi tradition is kind of different; it must be cool.”

13-14. Kewpie Moll

More unmixed previews of the recent Kings On Straw Mats sessions at Lastra Studios. Improv!

15. Collapse in Angles

More improv with Black Orchid. They are long-dead but if you want to see their old web stuff, I think it’s on this server. If I’m wrong? Oops.
